What do you mean by Windows® XP Service Pack 3?
Service packs are used to distribute product updates to the users. Microsoft® is introducing new updates regularly. These updates and enhancements are combined into a single package. Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 3 is the new service pack from Microsoft®. It includes all previous updates for the Microsoft® Windows® XP. This includes a number of new functionalities to provide maximum system performance to the user. These functionalities include Microsoft® Management Console (MMC) 3.0 and the Microsoft® Core XML Services 6.0 (MSXML6) etc. The updates of the operating system provide the system with maximum reliability, program compatibility and security. These updates are bundled conveniently for easy downloading. If you are having SP3 in your Microsoft® Windows® XP, you might not need to apply individual updates for the operating system.
You can install the Service Pack 3 with your Microsoft® Windows® XP. But, it requires minimum system configuration. They are:

- Hard disk space
The Service Pack 3 works with Windows® XP versions of Microsoft®. It can work with a number of Microsoft® Windows® XP versions. It works with Home editions of the XP like Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition and Home Edition N. You can use it with the Professional editions of the XP like Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional Edition and Professional N. SP3 works with Service Pack Editions like Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 1 and Service Pack 2. The SP3 works with Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition and Tablet PC Edition also.
Hard disk space
You can install the Microsoft® Windows® XP SP3 from different sources and in each case, the hardware requirements are different. If you are installing it from shared folder on network, you need hard drive with 80 MB working space, 1020 MB after installation and 1100 MB peak usage during installation. If you are installing it from a Windows® XP SP3 CD, you need 280 MB working space, 1485 MB available after installation and 1765 MB peak usage during installation. If you are installing from Microsoft® Download Center, you need minimum of 1500 MB of free hard disk space in your system.
For the better installation and working of the Service Pack 3, it requires a processor with speed of minimum 2.0 GHZ. You might get a number of processors with this speed. Its minimum requirement is Intel® Pentium® or Celeron® family processors. It can work with AMD-K6® / AMD Athlon™ / AMD Duron™ family processors also. You can use Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon™ or its equivalent.
The Microsoft® Windows® XP SP3 requires much available space in the memory to install easily. Microsoft® Windows® XP can work with a RAM of 64 MB or 128 MB. But, you need 512 MB RAM to install the Microsoft® Windows® XP SP3. If your system is not provided with much memory, you can upgrade the memory. If it’s not possible you can add external USB memory modules.
