Some of these cookies are stored in to the hard disk and when you visit the same Web page again browser access this information and the access of web page in this case will be easy. This helps you to notify the website that you have visited it in the past. Cookies in the system can be used to block some one-time services and to remember the user name and password of mails so that you don't need to enter them each time when you visit this website. Cookies also help you to remember the personal information that is important to the Web site you are visiting. It could be your name, personal preferences, and advertising information. But for more security you need to remove these cookies from the system. There are different ways to remove the cookies from windows XP system.

You could delete the tracking cookies in the internet explorer by using the Internet options. You could see the browsing history here and under browsing history, click 'Delete'; then select 'Cookies'. Then you need to select the close option. You could do this by using the control panel also. You could go to 'Start' > 'Control Panel' > 'Internet Options' and then you need to follow the same steps. In Mozilla Firebox, you could delete cookies by clicking 'Tools' > 'Options'. Click the privacy icon and then click 'Clear'.
You could prevent cookies from getting on your system again by changing your privacy settings. In this case also you need to select the Internet Options. Followed by this you could see the 'advanced' button. From there you could block the cookies by the block option. By allowing the session cookies, you could determine on a per-incident basis whether you want a cookie on your system. You browse the Web in the future, a window will pop up asking you whether you would like to allow or block the cookies.
Some types of softwares can be used to remove cookies from the system. Normal antispyware software could reduce a large extent of cookies from the system. You just need to run that software in the system. Proper updations of this software are necessary to remove all unknown malware from the system.
