Command Prompt in Windows® XP®
Find out the commands that are used in Windows XP operating system.
Command Prompt is the command-line interpreter. Command-line interpreter is a computer program, which is able to read lines of text entered by a user and interprets them in the context of a specific operating system. In order to open command prompt in Windows XP you need to open the Start menu and select Run. In the Run text box you need to type cmd and press 'Ok' button. It may display the command prompt window. Otherwise you can select All Programs from Start and select Accessories. Here you can see the option to open command prompt. 'Assoc', 'Break', 'Cd' or 'Chdir', 'Cls', 'At', 'Copy', 'del' and many such commands can be used in command prompt for Windows XP operating system.
Given below are some of the commands used in Windows XP system:

The command 'Cd' is used to display the name of the current directory you are working at that time. 'Chdir' command can be used to change the current working directory. In order to run this command you need to open command prompt and type 'Cd' and press enter. It will display the current directory. To run 'Chdir' command you need to open command prompt and type 'Chdir' and directory name. After typing you need to press Enter key.
'Cls' command can be used to clear the screen. If you are running command prompt for a long time and perform many operation then the command prompt window contains many lines of code. Type 'Cls' in the cursor blinking space and press Enter key. Then all commands and its output will be cleared from the command prompt window.
'At' command is used to schedule commands and programs to run on a computer at a specified time and date. Here you need to specify the date/ time or date and time after the 'at' command. Date may be the specific date in specific format or you need to specify only Monday, Tuesday, Sunday and more. Time specification also have specific format like HH MM SS.
'Copy' command can use to copy a file from one location to another. Here you need to specify the two file name. One files for copying content from it and another for pasting the copied content. You need to type 'copy' and type two file names and press enter to run this command.
