New Laptop with Windows® XP Operating System
How does installing Windows® XP increase system performance?
For use on personal computers such as desktop and laptop, Microsoft® introduced Windows® XP operating system. Each of these systems should satisfy some minimum requirements to use Windows® XP. These requirements might vary according to the system configuration. If you are installing Windows® XP on your laptop, you might need some extra requirements. The minimum hardware requirements for XP are Pentium 233-megahertz (MHz) processor or more. 300MHz processor is also recommended. The memory capacity should be either 64 MB or 128MB. The minimum available space in the hard disk is 1.5 GB. All other devices such as video card, Ethernet card, keyboard, mouse etc must be compatible with the operating system. These requirements are almost similar for Windows® XP Premium and Windows® XP Professional. Some additional requirements for Windows® XP operating system include network adaptor, camera, remote assistance etc. For example some Internet facilities require .NET passport account, and payment fee to a service provider.
Windows® XP increases the system performance in the following ways:
- Free up disk space
- Speed up access to data
- Remove disk errors
- Protection against spyware
Free up disk space
The Disk Clean Up tool helps you to free up disk space and thus improves the performance of hard disk. The tool identifies the unwanted files and asks you whether that file is to be removed or not. The Disk Clean up helps you in many ways. It removes temporary Internet files, java Applet programs and unused installed programs. It empties the Recycle Bin. You can access this tool from the All Programs option in the start menu. You only need to click on the Disk Clean button.
Speed up access to data
Disk fragmentation is the most basic reason for system slow down. The Disk Defragmenter utility helps you to speed up your system through disk defragmentation. This option will also be in the All Programs. You can also view the report of defragmentation.
Error Checking Utility can be used to remove disk errors. This utility scans for bad sectors in the hard drive and removes them. This also checks for files and folders to see whether they are misplaced. Thus, system performance would be increased.
PC safety scan from Windows® Live OneCare lets you protect your system from spyware. This is a free service and provides protection against viruses also. It safeguards your system from hackers and other online threats.
