Guidelines to follow
There are few guidelines that must be followed when upgrading Windows® XP Home operating system to Windows® XP Professional. If the system hard disk has not been completely formatted, it is impossible to upgrade the operating system. It must be a clean installation as any part of the hard disk containing any file of the previous operating system might create hassles. Especially people who have not been using the legitimate version of the Home edition version have to format the hard disk comprehensively. The remote desktop server and group policy editor would not accompany the Windows® XP Professional upgrade. Rest of the features would remain the same. Upgrading would also reflect in system properties.
Upgrade to Windows® XP Professional
To upgrade from Windows® XP Home to Windows® XP Professional open registry editor from the ‘Start’ menu, type in ‘regedit’ and run. The registry editor window would appear. Open ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE’ and click on ‘System’, select ‘ControlSet00X’ and ‘Control’. Then, select on ‘Product Options’, ‘ControlSet00X’ will have the highest value. Delete the project suite registry key. Create a new DWORD value and give a name as ‘Brand’. Set the value of Brand to 0.Restart the system. Boot on to the BIOS mode and press ‘F8’ repeatedly to select on ‘Start’ menu. Choose the last known good configuration and let the system boot. To confirm the configuration, check on the system properties.
Error message “unregmp2.exe” with the procedure entry point GETIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library msdart.dll appears while upgrading from Windows® XP Home to Windows® XP Professional. To solve the issue, press ‘Shift’ and ‘F10’ key when the error occurs and open the command prompt by clicking on ‘Start’, ‘Run’, type in ‘cmd’. Type in ‘taskmgr.exe’, the task manager window would appear, select the error message box and click on ‘End Task’. After clicking the ‘End Task’ box, start up with the installation. However, hard disk format is a must before upgrading to Windows® XP Professional. The installation must be a clean installation and disk defragmenter must be run before the hard disk is formatted.
