Microsoft® Windows® XP Fax Program
Get to know more about the Microsoft® Windows® XP Fax Program
Microsoft® Windows® XP fax software is built in Windows® XP, so that you can send and receive fax from your system. The fax feature is not included in the default installation of Windows® XP. Without an external fax machine, you can send, receive, track and monitor faxes. Instead of fax machine, you need a phone, scanner and a modem to send and receive faxes from your computer. In Windows® XP the fax service is not automatically installed during Windows® set up. You need to install the fax component. It is easy to install the X Windows® XP fax. By using add or remove Windows® utility in the ‘Control Panel’, you can install the fax service to your computer. Before doing so, make sure that your fax modem is properly installed.
Certain things are to be kept in mind before installing your Windows® XP fax service. Some of them are given below:
- Fax program configuration
- Install latest drivers
- Printer or scanner
- Phone line connection
Fax program configuration
To configure fax capability in XP you first need to configure the cover page then select a modem and enable the fax service to send and receive faxes. For configuring go to the ‘Start’ menu, then click on ‘All programs’ and select ‘Accessories’. Then click on the option ‘Communications’ and click on ‘Fax’ and then ‘Fax console”. When the configuration Wizard starts, Enter the area code, and then click ‘Next’. Enter the message in the cover page and then click ‘Next’. Select the modem from the ‘select device list’. If you want to disable the fax option, click the ‘Enable Send’ to clear it
Install latest drivers
Make sure that you have installed the latest Windows® XP drivers for your fax modem, printer or scanner. If the latest drivers are not installed, you might encounter some problems with your Windows® XP fax set up. So it is better to install the latest drivers or to update the drivers to the latest versions.
Before trying to install fax service, make sure that your system is having a printer or scanner with fax feature. For sending and receiving fax from your system a printer or scanner having fax feature is needed. Then you can install fax service by opening 'Control Panel' and configuring it.
To fax though your system, a phone line connection is needed. If you don’t have a phone line connection, an error message might be received when you try to send or receive fax. The error message is shown as “plug phone line to your modem”. So before installing the Windows® XP fax checks all the connections.
