Guidelines for System ID in Windows® Vista®
What is system ID in Microsoft Windows Vista?
The system ID is actually a combination of letters and numbers which indicates the product, its version and a unique identifier from your Microsoft Windows Vista system. The system ID is used in conjunction with a registered serial number which generates a license key. There are some points to be kept in mind while getting a system ID for your Microsoft Windows Vista system. It is not good to uninstall the system test engine software after getting the system ID. It is better to install the software on the top of its older version. If you uninstall the software, your system itself would start generating another system ID with which you might need to activate the product again.
Here are some guidelines to have system id in Windows Vista:
- Manual activation
- Copy the System ID
- Get it from the IMG License Manager
To get the system id, you would need to install a product completely. After the successful installation of the product, you need to create a login profile. Then, you need to execute the product for the first time. At this point, you would be prompted to activate the installed product. You could select the option for 'Manual activation' from this. With this, the system ID for your Microsoft Windows Vista system would appear on the bottom left corner of the system screen.
Copy the System ID
After getting the system ID on the left bottom corner on the manual activation screen, the next step is to copy the system ID. You need to copy it to the clipboard of the system. For this, you need to log on to proper websites and select the 'My Account' tab on these websites. In the tab, go to the Activate Products option and paste the copied system ID in the required field. This is needed to get the product activated. So, you need to click the 'Get Activation Key' button. The system would then return the Activation key which you need to paste in the corresponding field on the Manual Activation screen in the test engine.
The system ID is unique for each workstation. You can get the system ID for your Microsoft Windows Vista system from the IMG License Manager. For this, you need to contact the IMG License Manager first. To do this, you need to go to the Start Menu, select 'Programs' and click on the 'Product Name' option. The licensing information would bring up the IMG License Manager for the product. It is also possible for the IMG License Manager to be displayed by opening and closing the software at once. In the IMG License Manager window, you can get the System ID just below the 'Purchase License Now' option.
