Reasons for password reset
There are several situations when you need a password reset like, when you forget your Windows Vista password and you are not an administrator or when you are an administrator and you forget your password. You need to reset the password, if you remember your password but have entered it wrongly in your system for several attempts and the system has locked you out. In all these cases you would need to reset your Windows® password to be able to successfully login.
Steps for password reset
In all the three cases you have to reset the Windows® password using administrative rights. This is done by using the password reset disk; however, if this is not with you then you need to use second administrative account to reset the password. If the password reset disk is available with you then follow these steps: Click OK on the window when it pops up a message saying that you have entered a wrong password. Insert the password reset disk after clicking on “Reset Password” tab. Password Reset Wizard screen will appear with set of instructions. Follow each step and create a new password for Windows®. If either of the administrative account and password reset disk in not available with you then you will have to reinstall Windows Vista to use your computer.
