Sometimes, you accidentally delete the icons on the system and get worried about how to get them back. In some cases, you delete the icon, but discover later on that you need them back. On Windows Vista, the missing icons issues need to be taken care of with extra attention. Missing icons issues
Now, there might be some scenarios related to missing icons in Windows Vista. Icons are missing from the Control Panel. You might even face problems starting Control Panel and when you try to do so, the screen appears for some time and then goes away and Control Panel does not start. You might face issues while starting the Welcome center. After entering Welcome center in ‘Start’, select ‘Search’ box and then nothing comes up. You might not be able to start Windows Vista games such as Minesweeper or Chess. When you click on any of these icons, nothing happens.
Resolve these issues
In order to restore Windows Vista missing icons, you have to go to ‘Control Panel’ and then ‘Personalized’. Alternatively, you can also right click on the desktop and select ‘Personalized’. You will notice a box on the screen and you must select ‘Change Desktop Icons’ on the left-hand side. Now, you can select the icon(s) that you want to back on your desktop. Select ‘Apply and OK’. When you go back to your desktop, you will see the icons are there.
A word of caution is that you should not keep your desktop loaded with numerous icons. Only those icons must be kept that are required. This is to prevent the accidental deletion of icons from the desktop. Keep your desktop organized and less cluttered. It is highly recommended to keep only the system icons. Folders and files can be kept at different locations.
