If there is any tick mark on it, click on it to put the ‘tick’ mark and this will restore the desktop icons. If the ‘tick’ mark is present, then the problem will be with the ‘explorer.exe’ process. In order to fix the issue, right click on the bottom taskbar and click on ‘Task Manager’. This will open a new window entitled by 'Task Manager'. Click on ‘File’ menu and then click on ‘New Task (Run...)’. Type 'explorer.exe' and then hit ‘Enter’. This will restart the Windows Explorer and reload the registry values which in turn restore the desktop icons too.
