Windows® 98 is no doubt one of the best operating systems. But, we need to restore it sometimes if we face some problems in it. We need to perform a complete backup of the operating system for restoring the Windows® 98. A backup drive is enough for performing the process.

What is system restore?
System restore is a program introduced by Microsoft® to perform a backup function. It is used to take the computer back to a previous dated condition.
When do we need restoring of Windows® 98?
Sometime we may face some troubles in working with Windows® 98. There might be some software problems due to installation of bad software. Some troubles might come during booting. At that time restoring to the previous state is the simple solution to make the computer work properly.
In order to restore Windows® 98 first we need to click ‘Start > Program > Accessories > System Tool’. There we can find the ‘Backup’ tab. We need to click on the ‘Backup’ tab. By default, the backup selects all the files and folders stored in the computer for backup at the first time run. It is not necessary to backup all the programs in the computer if the user still has the installation set CDs or files. The user should always select the files or folders which the user needs to backup. The user can select the backup files in the Back up window. Then we should select the location where we want to backup the files. We can also keep the backups in any tape drive or additional hard drive or sometime network drive. Then the restoring process comes. We can restore the files using Windows backup utility. For that we need to go to ‘Start’ option first. After that we should click on the ‘Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Backup’. There we will be able to find the ‘Restore’ tab. We have to select the restore drive in the restore from window. Then we should select the files which we like to restore by marking the check boxes appear to the left of the options. To perform a full system restore we need a startup disk and installation CD of Windows® 98. We need to boot the computer from the floppy drive location and in the Windows® 98 startup menu we should select the ‘Start Computer’ with the support of CD ROM. The Windows® 98 set-up will begin. We need to click next in order to System Restore Wizard. We need to put some information there and click ‘Finish’. Then we need to select ‘Restore backup files’ in the Microsoft® backup screen and click ‘OK’. There we can select the location to restore from, select the backup sets to restore etc.
