Windows logon screen
Logon screen as the name indicates is the screen that is displayed as soon as you log on the computer. It is the screen that appears by default as you open the Windows. You could use pictures or wallpapers as the background of the logon screen instead of the default background of the logon screen.
Manually change the logon screen
First of all, open the registry editor and then navigate to HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionAuthenticationLogonUIBackground. Then double click on 'key OEMBackground' and change its value to 1. Thus, the OEM Background functionality is enabled. Then you have to browse to the folder '%windir%system32oobeinfobackgrounds' in Windows explorer. %windir% refers to the Windows install directory C:Windows in most of the computers. If the folder path does not already exist, you need to go ahead and generate the required folders. Then install any JPG file with size less than 256 KB in this folder and rename it to background Default.jpg. This file could be stretched to suit the screen.
There are some tools to change the logon screen. Logon changer is one of them. This tool lets you select an image file to use as the logon background. You need to just choose an image and Logon Changer could take care of everything else as well as the file size limit. It also makes it easy to revert to the default Logon Screen. Windows 7 logon screen rotator is another tool. It takes the logon screen customization one step further by permitting you to choose a set of images. It could then randomly use one of these images as the logon screen.
