Details of DreamScene in Windows® 7
What are the features of DreamScene in Windows 7?
Everybody likes to have their desktop with attractive wallpapers and icons. To improve the look of the desktop, DreamScene is used. This application was introduced in the year 2007 during the Windows Vista era. It allows users to display videos and animations on their home screen. It was one of the add-ons for Windows Vista Ultimate. The user can use the videos which are in WMV or MPEG format and also by altering the file extension, AVI video files can be used. Videos running in the background can eat up a lot of power and this becomes handy when you are using a laptop running on batteries. DreamScene prevents battery loss by displaying still images while the system is running on batteries.
Features of Windows DreamScene and its availability in Windows 7 are:
- Less CPU usage
- Availability in Windows 7
- Enable DreamScene in Windows 7
Less CPU usage
One of the advantages of the Windows DreamScene utility is that it uses the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) to display the videos and animations on the desktop rather than using the Central Processing Unit (CPU). This allows the CPU to concentrate more on the tasks given by the user and it improves the performance of the system. The video wallpaper can either be stopped by the user or it will be paused by the computer when a full screen application is running.
Availability in Windows 7
Windows DreamScene does not come preinstalled in Windows 7 and it is also supplemented with the "Desktop Slideshow" application in Windows 7. The "Desktop Slideshow" shows only a slideshow of the images as wallpapers and does not support videos to be played on Windows 7 home screen. You can register the dll file of DreamScene to make it run on Windows 7.
To install Windows DreamScene on Windows 7, first you need to turn on the Aero interface in Windows 7. Then you need to download the installer file, Windows7-DreamScene.exe, for Windows 7.
