The workgroups can be considered as a method for organizing the various computers on the network. The workgroups are also similar to the domain and homegroup concept on the networking systems. Only difference exists between them is the way they are managed on the network by the users or administrators. The workgroups are created at the time of connecting a Windows system to the network. The Windows systems acquire a name for the system on the network by default at the creating stage itself. The users can also create a new workgroup according to the user needs or can join to an existing workgroup in the network. Both of the options are easy and require only some steps to follow. The homegroup computers would be part of the workgroups and the workgroups would be a part of the domain. Thus, the computers in the network should be a member of any of the groups by default.
