Methods of connecting a Bluetooth® device on Windows® 7
What is the procedure for connecting a Bluetooth device on Windows 7?
Data transfer has become a basic need of computer users. Everyone would like to transfer pictures, office files, songs, etc. Bluetooth technology is one of the cheapest and easiest methods of connecting computers and devices wirelessly. You can transfer files from one computer to another Bluetooth-enabled device without being connected to the Internet or to any other network. A driver program for Bluetooth and utility to manage a Bluetooth connection is installed on the computer. You can access this utility by clicking on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray or you can find it in Control Panel. The Bluetooth utility allows you to enable or disable the Bluetooth device. It scans and detects Bluetooth enabled devices and allows you to pair devices and set passkeys for security.
Here are some tips to connect a Bluetooth device to a Windows 7 system:
- Enable Bluetooth
- Detect devices
- Transfer files or use the application
Once the driver program and the Bluetooth utility are installed on Windows 7, you can see the Bluetooth icon in the system tray, you can double-click on it to enable Bluetooth. You need to enable Bluetooth on both, computer and device. If you do not have an in-built Bluetooth feature on your computer, you can purchase a USB Bluetooth dongle and plug it into the USB port to make your system capable of using Bluetooth.
Once Bluetooth is enabled and connected, the Bluetooth utility will perform a scan and detect all Bluetooth-enabled devices available in the limited range of your Bluetooth- enabled computer. Once you select the device that you want to transfer a file to or from, you will be asked for a passkey for security purposes. Same passkeys should be entered on both Bluetooth-enabled devices to establish the connection. If the passkey is not matching, access will be denied.
You can browse and select the file or folder in Bluetooth utility and send it to another Bluetooth device or once connection is made, you can use Bluetooth-enabled devices like headphones, Keyboards or mouse. The other option to transfer the file is by right-clicking on the file that you want to transfer and select 'Send to' and then select the device you want to send the file to. You can see the progress bar moving which indicates file transferring process.
