Following are the major needs and consequences of configuring Microsoft Outlook 2010 to use with Microsoft Exchange 2010:
- To use MailTips feature
- To Support speech technology
- Issues in Connecting to Server
- Connecting to Default e-Mail Folders
- Message Tracking and Personal Archive
To use MailTips feature
Microsoft Outlook 2010 has a new feature called MailTips which helps users make the correct choices when sending sensitive communications. This works only with Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 and should be enabled by the Exchange administrator to avail this feature.
To Support speech technology
Microsoft speech technology is supported by Microsoft Exchange 2010. This helps to deliver voice mail messages in an e-mail. Speech Technology converts voice mail messages into text that users receive in an e-mail or text message. RMS protected voice mail is enabled which helps to send encrypted voice mail to a user’s mailbox.
Sometimes, you can encounter an error saying Problem Connecting to Server” while you try to use Auto Account Setup to connect to your e-mail account using Microsoft Outlook 2010. If this issue arises, use a Web browser or an e-mail program that supports POP or IMAP to connect to your account using Outlook Web App. If you are still having issues in connecting to the server you need to contact your e-mail administrator who manages your mailbox.
During Auto Account Setup, there can be an error if the person who manages your mailbox has turned off Cached Exchange Mode for your domain. If this mode is turned off for your domain, you may need to use POP or IMAP to connect to your mailbox instead of using Microsoft Exchange account.
Message tracking is a new feature supported by Microsoft Exchange 2010. This feature is used to confirm you that an e-mail message has been delivered. Also, it has an Online Personal Archive which eliminates the need for Personal Folder files (.pst). This will be available only when you use Microsoft Outlook as part of Microsoft Office Professional 2010.
