Know how to use Freeze Panes command in Microsoft Excel 2007?
You may find difficulty in reading and writing large spreadsheets while working with Microsoft Excel. If you scroll through any rows and columns, you will lose the headings located in the top and down of the left side of work sheet. A worksheet without heading also will be difficult to use. You cannot keep track of rows and columns without heading. Freeze panes are one of the important feature available in Microsoft Excel 2007 and this helps to avoid all those issues. This feature lets you to freeze some rows and columns or some particular areas and all those cells will be appeared whenever you scroll through those cells.
Following explains the method to use Freeze Pane command in Microsoft Excel 2007:
- To freeze top row
- To freeze first column
- Freeze panes using Active Cell
To freeze top row
To freeze the top Row, you need to open 'View' tab in Microsoft Excel 2007. You would see the Freeze Panes option from Ribbon feature which will open the drop down list that contains various features. From the list, you need to open the Freeze Top Row option. You can see a black border beneath the row which you selected. While selecting the Freeze option, the first row will be disappeared from worksheet and the remaining portion will reside.
To freeze first column
Similar to first row, you can freeze the first column also. Here also, you need to select 'View' tab followed by Freeze Panes option. From the drop down list, you need to select 'Freeze first column' option. Similar to row freeze, you can see the black border in the first column and by freezing it, you would see that the first column disappearing from the worksheet and the remaining will reside in the list.
An active cell is the cell with a black border and the data can enter only in to this cell. While freezing worksheet using Active Cell option, you can see that all the rows above the Active cell and the all columns to the left of the active cell will be disappeared from the worksheet. To freeze using active cell, you need to select any of the cells which should be the left one of the cells that you want to freeze. Then select the Freeze panes option from View tab. Then scroll through the cells which you want to freeze. All the cells which you want to freeze will be disappeared from the worksheet and all other cells will remain.
