With Google making sharp inroads in cloud based computing can Microsoft be far behind. The latest offering from Microsoft – the Internet Explorer 9 – delivers a robust browsing platform for businesses which depend upon web applications for the smooth running of their business. The monetary benefits are nothing to be laughed at – it is estimated that savings of over $ 3 million would accrue over a three year period.
The deployment of the new browser varies from 12 month to 18 months. However there is a small hurdle – most businesses are worried that the Internet Explorer 9 would not be compatible with most of their web applications. That concern seems to have been addressed- at least for now. Industry insiders say that the new browser is compatible with more than 80 percent of the web applications in use.
Then there is the X factor – even if your application does not run on the Internet Explorer 9, you can switch on the compatibility mode and get the desired functionality. This is possible because of the HTMl5 – the fifth iteration of the HTML language, provides better support to multimedia and is intended to replace HTML4 and XHTML.
The new browser would give users enhanced browsing capabilities, enhanced security features and better debugging facilities – extremely useful for businesses running on web based applications. Moreover, with the major issue- that of application remediation- removed it has the potential to rewrite how business is done online. Google better watch out.
